Touchstone maps are receiving minor changes to the lighting and readability and Upgraded maps receive an overhaul complete using Source 2’s physically-based rendering.

Updates
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been in existence for 10 years and was in desperate need of an update. Fans had been expecting a Source 2 beta for CS:GO for some time and Valve confirmed that the beta test will begin today. Valve promised a “largest technical leap forward for the game” with a complete overhaul of all aspects of the experience.
The most notable change is the transition from Source 2 to a graphics engine which provides an immersive visual experience. New lighting, particle systems and a greater emphasis on making bullets readable from a distance are all part of this. The switch to the latest engine also led to that several maps have been redesigned which include a revamped version of Italy and Overpass.
Valve’s new version is designed to improve the way server architecture and tick rates manage the game’s actions. The switch to 128-tick server architecture should improve both the responsiveness and graphic quality of the game. Valve says the change is an “remarkable upgrade” which will allow CSGO to feel more responsive.
Apart from the visual changes, players can also expect various game-play enhancements. For instance, smoke grenades will now be displayed as 3D volumetric objects in the game world and can be pushed around to temporarily shape lines of sight.
