Dead Fob Battery
Car key fobs are quite intelligent however this doesn’t mean that they won’t occasionally find themselves in the “not responding” zone. If this happens, it’s usually time to replace the battery. It’s not a solution because it could be due to an issue with one of the terminals on the battery connector.
Automobile manufacturers are aware of this potential issue, and they frequently put a spare mechanical key inside the fob to be used in this kind of emergency. To gain access to this, find the small release button or latch on the back of the fob (check the user’s manual for details). Pressing this can allow you to open the fob and gain access to an actual key that you can use to unlock your car.
You’ll also need to be close to your vehicle in order to lock and unlock it. The transmitter of the fob is depleted in power when the battery dies. This reduces its range.
Replacing the battery is straightforward and relatively inexpensive. Be sure to purchase the button cell battery (which appears like a tiny silver coin) to replace your fob, and follow the user guide or key video on how to take out the old one. Replace the battery in the same way as the old one (the positive side facing upwards towards the buttons). Test the lock/unlock function, and begin the functions of the fob after reassembling it. Make sure the battery has been installed correctly.
Certain key fobs may be difficult to open but you should be able to open them by placing the latch, switch or screw on the back of the fob and then prying it open. Be careful not to break the fob, since you’ll need it to work with your vehicle! You can also take the key fob to an expert in case you’re not comfortable doing it yourself. Because it’s a standard procedure, most auto shops will change the battery on a fob for a nominal cost. Some dealers may even perform the swap for free, based on the model and make of your vehicle.

If the battery is not the correct fit it could have problems transmitting strong signals and providing sufficient power to internal components.
In very rare cases it could be that the issue isn’t with your key fob, but more with the vehicle’s receiver or electronic components. You can test this by using a physical key to open the door and then trying to start your car with the inductive backup system (if there is).
