The Friday edition of “The Joe Gaither Show” covers a number of different topics as we prepare for a Memorial Day weekend. In addition to all of the drastic changes the Crimson Tide is undergoing and feeling the effects of, the team has a rather difficult schedule in the 2024 regular season. Milroe is a great candidate for a counselor position, Latenitetip.com as in his first year as Alabama’s starter this past season, he completed nearly 66 percent of his pass attempts for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Holloway is a former McDonald’s All-American and 5-star recruit out of high school, and during his freshman season at Auburn was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. The solution agreed to in the settlement is landmark, but not surprising. College sports has been trending in this direction for years, with athletes receiving more and more monetary benefits and rights they say were long overdue. The latest college football re-rank from USA TODAY, which ranks every FBS program, has the Tide at No. 7 in the nation. The Commanders just announced David Blackburn as the director of player personnel, another change after holdover Eric Stokes left the organization.
In Week 2, Alabama will host the University of South Florida Bulls for the final matchup of the two programs’ home-and-home series. In 2023, Alabama survived an ugly game that featured a benched Jalen Milroe, a torrential downpour that caused a weather delay and a surprisingly tough USF team that showed up to play. This offseason, the Bulls revamped its roster and got significantly better. USF knows it can defy the odds and take down Alabama and the team may have some added desire to know that they would be upsetting the Tide in Bryant-Denny Stadium. If you are a fan of Alabama football and feel 100% confident about this game, I would do a little bit more research on this season’s upcoming USF team. There is still a question of whether athletes should be deemed employees of their schools, something Baker and other college sports leaders are fighting against.
He has a smile on his face each day he gets to the Commanders’ facility for offseason workouts and has fully bought into what the latest regime is selling. That leaves Haynes and Jam Miller to lead the way on the ground with Richard Young likely to play a sizable role as well. There are other talented players in the receiving room, but there’s an opening for someone to lead the way as the top receiver.
There is no shortage of excitement for the return of EA Sports’ beloved College Football video game series this summer, a franchise returning due to the advent of NIL payouts for college athletes which allowed their likenesses to be in the game. Despite an early lead, Alabama softball fell to No. 3 seed Tennessee 3-2 on Friday in Game 1 of the NCAA super regionals at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The 2024 regular season may prove to be challenging for DeBoer in his first season at the helm of the historic program, but iron sharpens iron, and it’s impossible to build an impressive resumé without obtaining some impressive wins. Alabama added another runner in the second inning on an infield single from Riley Valentine and aggressive base running from Giles at second base to extend the lead to 2-0. While many fans are focused on the early-season home matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs, there are a handful of other games on the schedule that Alabama fans shouldn’t overlook.
Jocelyn Briski entered in relief for Alabama in the bottom of the fifth inning, finishing the game going 1⅓ innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout. Kayla Beaver finished the game giving up three runs on two hits while striking out two across 4⅔ innings pitched. The winner of the Knoxville Super Regional will punch a ticket to the Women’s College World Series. Alabama is looking to make its second-straight trip to the Women’s College World Series and 15th in program history. After Beaver allowed the home run, freshman Jocelyn Briski entered in relief.
Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program as the college football offseason continues. As odd as it may sound, 2024 may be the perfect time for DeBoer to take over in Tuscaloosa. As the program undergoes a massive shift, so does the rest of college football. Major conference realignment takes effect, the College Football Playoff is expanded and there’s still much uncertainty regarding name, image, likeness and the transfer portal.
This would have been an epic Camp Randall Stadium night game, right up there with the best atmospheres in recent memory. It’s a different Alabama team with Nick Saban retiring during the offseason. Yet it’s still a formidable team likely to open the season ranked in the top 10. Fickell will have an opportunity to earn a signature win during his brief time at Wisconsin.
Nick Saban developed a sometimes unbelievable amount of talent during his legendary Alabama career and will continue to see some of his former players trickle into the NFL over the next couple of years. As it stands, his Crimson Tide program accounts for by far the most professional players of any school. From Derrick Henry to Tua Tagovailoa and Minkah Fitzpatrick to Josh Jacobs, a wide swath of the league’s biggest names played its college ball under Saban’s tutelage in Tuscaloosa. The SEC and Big Ten are the only two “power conferences” left where football is concerned, and this settlement is only going to widen the gap between those two leagues and everyone else.
