The D7’s cleaning capabilities are impressive. It is able to get rid of an average of 99.8 percent of Cheerios scattered across the floor It’s a little better than Roomba i7+’s 94.6 percent and the Shark Ion R85’s 100 percent. The D7 is also able to move well on both bare carpet and high-pile.
Another great feature is the ability to choose between two different levels of cleaning. There’s an Eco mode that runs the vacuum in a quiet manner and extends the time of run, whereas Turbo mode delivers the most powerful cleaning. The Turbo mode is a bit loud, which can be annoying when you use the D7 to watch TV or work.
The D7 is one of the few robots to create and store multiple floor plans, which is great for multi-level homes. It also has the quick boost feature, which permits it to return to its base to recharge before continuing cleaning. This is especially useful for cleaning areas that are difficult to clean. Neato’s app is easy to use and regularly updated with new features. This is one of the cheapest robots available on the market for large carpets and pet hair.
2. Eufy RoboVac ElevenS
The Eufy 11S, like the Neato D7 is sleek and low profile. It can be positioned under couches, beds and coffee tables more easily than other robot vacuums. It also comes with a few innovations that help it clean well and where you want it to be, including no-go lines that you can draw on its virtual maps to stop the robot from removing sensitive areas like pet bowls or beds. It also comes with an auto recharge and resume feature. If the battery is dead before it finishes cleaning, it automatically makes its return to its base to charge and then returns to where it left off.
In our tests the RoboVac 11S performed better than its predecessor, eufy RoboVac 30C. It also was more efficient than the ILIFE A4s, the bObsweep Bob Pro, and the ILIFE a4s. It has a bigger dirt compartment and a longer battery lifespan and is able to clear more debris from low pile and high pile carpets to bare floors. It is also simpler to maintain, incurs less recurring costs and is able to maneuver itself.
This isn’t the ideal robot vacuum for bare floors but it’s an ideal choice for households with medium carpets and pets. It uses random navigation and sensors in its bumper and underbelly to navigate through obstacles. It’s not as sophisticated as the mapping technology in other robots, but it does the job well enough and gets into nooks and crannies other robots aren’t able to reach. It also comes with a couple of spin brushes for cleaning along walls and an enlarged 0.6-liter dirt bin. It comes with a physical remote control that features a monochrome display, charging dock and four side brushes that are attachable, two extra filters, and a cleaning tool.
3. iLife VS3 Pro
If you have pets, you’ll need an automated vacuum strong enough to take out pet hair. It sticks to floors and rugs and can make even the strongest robot vacuum struggle. I measure how much dog and cat fur robots can gather from the floor by measuring the amount of hair they can take in. I also test whether the robot can navigate household terrain. This includes how it navigates over a threshold, around furniture and table legs, and under the couch. Some robots are able to track their homes with sensors. They can sense their way around and create a 3D model of the house. This allows them to avoid obstacles during subsequent cleaning cycles.
The iLife V3s Pro excels at managing household terrain and is one of the most affordable models we tested. It also did well on my tests to remove pet hair, snagging nearly all of the hair that was sucked from hardwood floors and just a little lower when it was tested on carpet.
As opposed to many other robot vacs, the V3s Pro does not use brushes that are traditional. It instead relies on two rotating side brushes to loosen and push debris towards a 3 inch opening at the base of its. This isn’t a reliable unit on carpet but it’s still impressive considering its cost.
The iLife V3s Pro is also capable of mopping. It was effective on bare floors and picked up tinsel and mud from my tests. However, it’s not as effective as the top robot mops.
4. Roborock s7
For a robotic vacuum with impressive technological capabilities and impressive tech capabilities, the Roborock S7 is a great value. It performs similarly to a number of top-of-the-line models and is easy to use and maintain. It also has a wide array of high-end features that are similar to the features of robots that cost twice its price. It is a great option for first-time buyers, those upgrading from an entry-level model, and anyone looking to save time while cleaning.
This robot is equally at comfortable on floors that are unfinished as it is on carpet. Its suction strength of 2,000Pa is enough to withstand heavy-soiled carpets that are thick and densely soiled. It’s well-built, maneuvers efficiently and can be used with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands to operate hands-free. The s7 is also a great mopping robot. It comes with a 200ml tank of water as well as mopping pads which can be easily attached to the robot’s back. Add water and a microfiber cloth, and the s7 automatically begins mopping your floors. When the mopping process is complete it will return to its dock and stop automatically.
The app that comes with it is simple to use, with an attractive layout and lots of functions. You can draw a map of your house, set virtual boundaries that the s7 can’t cross, create zones that are ‘no-go, or simply tell it to clean a specific room. You can also look at its maintenance history, current status, and track its performance.
5. Neato Q5 Pro
The Neato Q5 Pro robot vacuum is a multi-functional device that is great at cleaning floors with no carpet. It also cleans up a lot of debris from both low-pile and high pile carpet. It feels impressively built, has a comprehensive suite of navigation features and is simple to maintain. It has a shorter battery life, and has more recurring costs than other units.
The Q5 is among the slowest-moving robots we’ve examined, but it does have an efficient layout algorithm that doesn’t require babysitting beyond its first trip through the space. It begins by tracing out an area, and then fills in the interior using a sweep of parallel lines. When the task is completed it is returned to the charging station, if it was not at the base.
It did an excellent job of cleaning hardwood floors and removing at minimum 88% dirt from every test. It had more trouble with low- and high-pile carpets however, it still performed better than the standard unit. It also comes with a mopping attachment to clean up wet spills. We didn’t test it.
Its maneuverability is above average for a robot equipped with lidar, as it is capable of softly bouncing into furniture and other obstacles. Its navigation system is able to detect stairs and floors, allowing it to deal with multistory homes. It can also identify individual rooms when you choose them in the app. It is also able to adjust its power level, establish no-go zones and show a map of the current cleaning area. The Q5 is controlled via the mobile app, as well as voice commands from Alexa Google Assistant and Apple Siri.
