While Anker-owned Eufy has made an impact in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it hasn’t previously offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features that can compete against more expensive models.
The laser navigation system is the primary selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have built up an outline of your home utilizing infrared sensors and bumping into objects but the X8’s laser mapping system is much more accurate. It also takes a lot less time to build up a comprehensive picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.
The X8 is still a decent vacuum on bare floors, slinging debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with relative ease. Its tyres are adept at securing corners and edges, even though they’re circular. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.
The basic mopping mode utilizes the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that aren’t serious, but you cannot control the amount of water that it uses. Miele’s RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, efficient appliances. It is a stunning design, a great navigation system and an impressive cleaning power. It has some oddities in its operation that prevent it from being named the top smart robot vacuum.
Like iRobot’s latest models like the RX2 comes with dual-sensor mapping technology that uses the LIDAR sensor to map out an area and three 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room has been mapped and assigned, you can assign virtual no-go zones and favorite sections to the robot. You can also begin an automatic clean or manually change the cleaning mode, see live feeds from the onboard cameras, and more from the main screen.
The RX2 is equipped with excellent sensors that can detect furniture and other obstructions in a flash. Its sweeping and suction power are top-notch and cleans up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust on floors with no floor. But it’s not the most efficient robot available. It’s not the greatest climber and has issues with transition strips made of metal.

But it’s important that a robot is able to do the job and that’s why our ZDNet staff tested and reviewed several of the most well-known models to help you choose the right one for your home.
4. Shark ION
This budget robovac looks just like a typical robot, but it’s upgraded in performance and features. Its smart mapping system generates 3D and 2-D maps of your house and uses to navigate and stay clear of obstructions. It can even detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. It was able to climb over carpets with thick shags and did not get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). If you’re looking for a simple, no-frills robot vacuum for a reasonable price, the Eufy 11S could be a good choice. It doesn’t have many of the smart features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are found in more expensive models, but if you don’t need those functions you can save money by purchasing this model.
This robot is simple to set up and use. It doesn’t require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with a remote control which allows you to choose between various modes and adjust the suction level. It also lets you manually turn off the robovac on a scheduled cleaning.
In our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely effective at cleaning dirt and pet fur from carpets and floors with low pile. Its slim profile helped it reach under furniture and other low items that larger robots could not reach. The 11S, as with other robots, will also eat certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can avoid this by keeping these objects off the ground and by using a cord organizer when you can. It also recommends that you periodically clean the dustbin, change the filters, and clean or change the brushes when needed.
6. IRobot Roomba 990
The Roomba 980 is iRobot’s most popular robot vacuum. It’s expensive, but it’s a top performer and arguably the most advanced robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigating capabilities and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It is more sophisticated in its automation than the majority of its rivals, for instance the ability to set up virtual boundary markers with its mobile application. Although the app isn’t the most responsive and the 980 can spin out a bit when moving over cables, it’s still a very capable robot vacuum.
One thing we really like about the 980 is that it uses its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It uses this information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a cleaner vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.
Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt on hard floors and carpets and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. Its floor tracking sensor assists in navigating around furniture, along edges and on the stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It will automatically return to its base station for easy recharges between sessions. While the 980’s battery life and bin size aren’t as good as those of other robot vacuums it’s a reliable and solid machine that can keep your floors spotless for hours at a time.
