1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, designed by Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand’s retro aesthetic with cutting-edge technology. It handles every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and then tamping them into a puck, to making milk into a texturing process and dispenses the correct volume – so you can make high-quality barista hot drinks with the click of the button.
The machine is also available in black, red, or taupe. It can easily be incorporated into any kitchen style. The machine is not without flaws, however. Many reviewers felt that it was expensive for a cup-to- bean maker (and does not come with the milk pitcher).
There were also many glowing reviews about the machine’s user-friendliness and the quality of its coffee. The digital display is intuitive and provides the step-by-step instructions and feedback throughout the entire brewing process, helping you make your drink perfect each time. It even allows you to alter the grind size if it’s not quite right. It’s like having a personal barista at home (minus Elon Musk’s rocket building abilities and Harry Potter’s invisible cape).
If you prefer milky drinks this model comes with an adjustable steam wand that can be adjusted up and down to accommodate all drinking vessels, but not the drinking horn of Vikings. We were also awed by the speed and efficiency at how the frothing was accomplished. It also makes a delicious espresso, with a great crema and full flavor despite its compact size.
The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder. It’s quiet and efficient, and it provides excellent value for money with its current price of PS499. The only issue is that it doesn’t provide the same level of customisation as other bean-to-cup machines that we have tested. Its pump has 15 bars instead of the standard 19 bars. This isn’t as good for producing high-quality espressos. However it’s a great machine to make coffee for those who prefer their coffee strong and dark. Users have also been impressed by the speed of the machine. It’s faster than other machine they have ever used. Another bonus is that the machine will alert you when one of its hoppers is about to be empty, ensuring that you do not get caught running out of your favorite drink.
The only thing that may be a negative for some people is the price. This machine is not cheap, at nearly PS999. It’s still less expensive than comparable Jura machines with similar features.
The Barista TS Smart is backed up by an impressive warranty, which provides two years of coverage. This is longer than the typical one-year guarantee, so it is a great sign of confidence from the manufacturer.
